The Best Summer Makeup Tips for Warm Weather

by | Mar 20, 2019 | Makeup

As the seasons change, so should your makeup routine. From berry shades in the winter to a golden glow in the summer – simple, seasonal changes will make sure your makeup stays on trend and flawless from season to season. Often, it’s summer makeup that people struggle with the most. From preventing your makeup from melting off in the heat to choosing the perfect shade of lipstick – we’ll teach you all the tips and tricks to keep your makeup looking flawless in that summer sun.

Summer Makeup Tips for Long-Lasting Makeup

With longer, hotter and more humid days, summer can often be a bit of a nightmare for makeup-wearers. From caking to melting – battling to keep your makeup looking flawless on long summer days can be a bit of a nightmare. However, these tips will make sure your makeup is ready for summer.

Use a Primer

When it comes to summer, primer should be your new best friend. Although we’d always recommend using a primer under your foundation, it’s particularly useful during the summer months to help prevent your makeup from caking and melting in the heat.

But it’s not one-size-fits-all – there’s a primer for every skin type and occasion. From primers for oily skin to glow-inducing primers, there are a lot to choose from. If you notice your skin gets particularly oily during the summer months, we’d recommend a mattifying primer, which will help to keep shine at bay while keeping your foundation in place.

Simply apply your primer to cleansed, moisturised skin before applying your foundation and your skin will be prepped and primed, ready makeup application.

Skip Blusher for Bronzer

We’d advise using a liquid bronzer to avoid powder caking and migrating in the heat – just set the liquid with a tiny dusting of powder bronzer to give it some extra staying power.

Additionally, we’d recommend skipping your go-to blusher in favour of a liquid bronzer during the summer months. Heat makes the blood rise to your cheeks, giving you a natural flushed look, meaning the addition of blusher can look a little over the top on a hot summer’s day.

Simply blend bronzer under your cheekbones and across your forehead for a sun-kissed glow that’ll make you look as if you’ve just stepped off a plane.

Keep it Light

Full-coverage foundations and warm weather simply do not go hand-in-hand. The more makeup you’ve got on your face, the more there is to go wrong. So take it back to basics on the hottest days of the year by keeping everything light, sheer and natural.

Swap your usual foundation for a tinted moisturiser to give you a healthy-looking, sun-kissed complexion without too much product. However, if you’re really not ready to give up your full-coverage foundation, then opt for a longwear formula to make sure it lasts all day throughout the heat.

Waterproof Formulas

We might not like to admit it, but heat makes us a little bit sweaty, which can be a nightmare for makeup-wearers. From smudged mascara to migrating brows – there’s a lot that can go wrong when the weather heats up a little.

To save yourself from dreaded panda eyes, opt for waterproof formulas where possible. From mascara to brow products – waterproof makeup will be your saviours during the hot summer months.

Setting Spray

If you want your makeup to last all day, a setting spray should be your first port of call. There are a number of different setting sprays available for every skin type and occasion.

We’d advise using a setting spray that’s been specifically formulated for oily skin during the hot summer months to help you keep shine at bay as much as possible.

Once the setting spray has been sprayed on the skin, it starts to evaporate, leaving behind polymers – usually alcohol – which form a film over the top of your makeup, setting it in place. It’s a makeup essential for those hot days and will ensure your makeup lasts much longer.

Blotting Sheets

Oil blotting sheets are a makeup must-have during the summer months. Blotting sheets work to soak up any excess oil that appears on the skin throughout the day, helping to reduce shine and keep your makeup in place a little longer.

Many people often add translucent powder to their face throughout the day when they notice a little shine showing through, however, this can often result in creased, cakey makeup. Blotting sheets are the perfect alternative, helping to reduce shine and actually remove the oil from the skin, resulting in fresh-looking, flawless makeup.

Whether you’re jetting off to a warmer climate, or staying put for the summer – these summer makeup tips will make sure your makeup would look flawless all season long.
